WATCH THE ANIME VERSION

After finishing this last night, I have to say... It's better than most manga I've read. Natsu seems to take qualities from the mains of the (ex)big 3 + Ed Elric and done very well. Lucy is Sakura done f***ing RIGHT. Gray... eh, I'm neutral on him. He's the friendly jerkass rival, but his only things that make him stand out are his stripping and Juvia, who is a great character. Erza... I could rant all day about her, she's extremely well done.

As a whole, the characters are well developed. The author knows how to redeem/demonize a character very well, and none of the characters that are redeemed feel forced. The characters are mostly memorable, if only for a random trait or moment. There are all sorts of cute character interactions, even for the lesser members of the guild. Things like ElfmanxEvergreen and AlzackxBisca, or just seeing every day life.

You can catch subtle references to other things throughout the series that will make you just laugh your a** off if you get it, and some references are more... tributes. Meredy is a reference to a couple characters from a certain series, and fits them to a tee... Well, pre-timeskip. Even the equal sign in at least one of the attack names is a subtle reference that'll put a grin on someone's face if they know what it is.

My only heavy criticism is that the mangaka seems terrified of taking a chance. Nothing he's done has really pushed the envelope, and even his writing is a bit too conservative oftentimes. It's hard to resonate with the characters at times, and the epic victories don't really have the adrenaline rush they do in other series. Other times, he succeeded here, just... Natsu especially seems to fall flat in this aspect, for me. Some others did evoke a reaction, though only for a bit.

A minor criticism is that some victories, especially with the end bosses of arcs, seem rather... rushed at times.

Jellal, Gajeel, Erza, and Loke are my favorites, in no particular order. Bixlow, Elfman, Juvia, Freed, and Laxus get a shout out, too.

Ugh, those 2 filler chapters killed me.

They really pushed for 300th.

Well, 298 made me laugh a lot. That slide scene was priceless.
And sadly, 299 convinced me that Gildarts might be dying soon.

I really liked Rufus here.

Putting that aside, I f****** love Crime Sorcière. Everything about them is either amazing, cute, or absolutely hilarious.
