Old "Trump" Monsters
Looking back on it now, I can't believe just how much Gate Guardian sucked. Are there any old "trump" cards that you think were awful to begin with?

XYZ Dragon cannon was bad, but let's go a step further and say VWXYZ is the worst trump card ever.
That and time wizard because it's Anime Effect it totally different.

Thing is, most of these trumps always sucked because they were so easy to trash with something like man-eater-bug, even way back then.

Re: Old "Trump" Monsters
I personally feel Gate Guardian's materials--Suijin, Kazejin, and Sanga of the Thunder--are actually better on their own than Gate Guardian as a whole. Their costs are somewhat high, but reducing a monster's ATK to 0 and going in for the kill seems pretty good to me.

Re: Old "Trump" Monsters
"Power creep" is irrelevant to all the given examples in this thread, since they were awful since they were made. If anything, yugioh's fortunately a skilled game where you can't just mindlessly go "Herp derp more atk is best".
Personally I've always liked the power creep in yugioh, since it makes the game more complex. Not such a big fan of the extent they took it to more recently but we have a banlist for a reason.
Heck, if it weren't for power creep we'd still be sticking Swords on our La Jinns and attacking their Battle Ox for maximum damage output. Which would suck, since it's far too basic.

Actually, you're right. It's not really power creep; poor choice of words in my case. I'll fix it.Chandra Ablaze wrote:"Power creep" is irrelevant to all the given examples in this thread, since they were awful since they were made. Re: Old "Trump" Monsters
A lot of old "trump" monsters were also always bad because they had no way of being consistently played.
This was a common thing throughout most of the early era of yugioh, with a few exceptions such as BLS-EotB, Chaos Emperor Dragon, DmoC and of course Thousand-Eyes Restrict, who are even too good for the modern game, then later we had cards such as Jinzo and Chaos Sorcerer, which were both spectacular bosses for decks to reach. The latter of which is still good today. Proceeding after this, we had Chimeratech Overdragon and Cyber Twin Dragon. In their case it's not so much they're not good enough, it's the cards the decks ran that are no longer good enough. Later, we had Monarchs and finally a 2 tribute boss monster that would actually be normal summoned; LaDD. These remain good to this day, and are still considered the best tribute monsters. We then hit the synchro era, where all the old trumps bar the now-banned ones and Red Dragon Archfiend still see some use, but they haven't lost power, again it's just the decks they've lost.
When you look over the true "trump cards" of Yugioh history, it's actually very rare they lose their power over time.

Re: Old "Trump" Monsters
I don't actually think any trump monster becomes weaker as time goes on, it's just the game evolves to a state where they aren't exactly a trump card anymore.
Possibly the best example is something like Jinzo or Mobius. Both of them were at a time considered Staples due to there power in cutting out your opponentsn options. However, as the game changed making monsters more important. Jinzo and Mobius have become slower, and less effective. But they still do what they do. Jinzo still blocks traps and Mobius still takes out two face downs.
And evidence to prove the staying power of old trumps, is the ever loathed Black Luster Soilder, Envoy of the Begining. Also what do you define as an old trump? Since, old is a relative term, how old are we counting old as?

Re: Old "Trump" Monsters
Hmm, Pre GX. It would be BLS, CED, Jinzo, the Monarchs, and not a huge lot else.
And Levia was amazing. Though I got the structure deck before they erratered Neo-Daldedius. It was so fun when I could summon him whenever I had big wave small wave. And then go Chaos Emperor over everything.

That, and because Dimension Fusion is@0Szadek wrote:XYZ Dragon Cannon, ONLY BECAUSE D.D. HANGAR IS ANIME ONLY D<
Then again, Dimension Fusion is just loop/abuse centric because of other cards.

Levia wasn't even "really good". It was rubbish, in both design and actual use.

Re: Old "Trump" Monsters
Destiny HERO - Dogma was my favorite Trump Monster, although it took me a good month to realize that MST doesn't negate. And at that time, I realized Plasma was better.
And my dad valued Jinzo as his favorite trump monsters when he used to play when we were at the Battle City Arc.
Unfortunately cards got more faster.

Really, am I going to be the first to point out the incredibly obvious one?

This is a thread about the worst bosses, not the most hated ones.

Exodia is, by itself, pretty bad, but the decks that use it efficiently are just retarded D:

Re: Old "Trump" Monsters
I used to think Chimeratech Fortress Dragon was the worst designed card in the game, then I remembered Exodia =/
Seriously, Yugioh is more fun than Solitare because your cards interact with the opponent... nope, let's make a win condition that just goes back to Solitare!

Guardian Eatos. I know her card version is technically better, but I loved the sheer deavstation she could cuase with her anime effect.

What? That's like me hating Chris for saying Fabled's aren't Tier 1. ._.
Anyways, I always loved Rainbow Dragon, despite it, y'know, sucking a ton.
