Im making a 5C Standard Singleton, this has to be the strangest deck I've ever seen so far.

Singleton?

It's more fun to just play like 5-6 singleton threats in a good control shell, since that actually wins, it sounds so boring losing over and over again because you don't have enough of certain good cards.

Eh I was bored and wanted to do something weird. Singleton Standard sounded weird enough.

Guess I'm just a little too fond of winning.

Oh I love winning too, I just have no money to actually play in RL so I dont mind making bad decks that much

Eh, you could always save up for a good deck if you wanted.

I think I'll just be playing the relatively cheap decks of standard, and sticking to modern as the format to play irl, especially since Black Infect costs... like nothing except the Urborg that takes up 1/5 of the deck's cost.

Haven't slept yet... and it's 3 in the afternoon. Jeeeeeez.

My sleep has been strange lately. I sleep at 5Pm and wake up at 6 AM.

It's better than staying up all night though

I did get good amounts of sleep on my vacation.

Now I'm just excited for Gatecrash. I will end up getting a booster box. I must.

MM is going to put a big dent in the already small wallet I have.

So someone should walk me through the Standard card pool and tell me what's good and why. And tell me what the change from Standard to Modern means as far as quality of the cards. So I can learn this and maybe not make such shitty decks.

If you want an easy way to judge how good a card is, the vanilla test is an obvious base to start, then expand upon.

It works for constructed, but you have to go a bit beyond P/T, and overlap with abilities and synergy. And remember, importance changes with the archetype (aggro, tempo, control, midrange, combo).

The general value you want to generate from a card is very important, if you're not at the worst getting a net 0 of advantage, then most of the time the card is bad.

The difference between standard and modern is mostly the speed and how most decks will top at either 3 or 4 mana. You really have to look over the best decks in the format to get a real grasp but to sum up modern in a nutshell:
