Does exactly what blue doesn't want to do especially with Negate and Dispel in the bloody format.

Also is Blue getting a lot of "I exchange your stuff for animals" spells this set...XD

Seems to be based on Leda and the Swan and also mute swans as Apollo's sacred bird and also the idea of a swan song from this directly.

Unfortunately for Chris, Greek myth is essentially the bubbling cauldron of metamorphosis myths. I wouldn't be surprised to see perhaps maybe one more Polymorph-style card.

Regarding the counter, I'd love to play it in Standard. Wrong format for it though. At most, it'll be a side for control mirrors or something, but I won't be surprised if it does see play.

But it doesn't even hit what Negate hits!

Hmm, that's my one only problem with this card, which is that it should have been a Negate variant. Hitting artifacts and planeswalkers really doesn't make it broken, but those effects are usually quite marginal by themselves, so adding it onto this really doesn't make much of a difference.

Except Negate's best function is countering Planeswalkers.

Rather, doesn't make much of a difference to making it broken. Making it a Negate variant obviously just makes it an overall much better card (since the extra two card types being counterable is a boon), but it's clearly not gonna be breaking formats.

Mostly, my point was that, yes, it should have been a Negate variant for the sake of playability and just general card text elegance.

Plus not everyone cares for Standard and HELL this is not a Standard card

Can you target the Swan's Song it's self? Counter it and put a 2/2 flyer for U?

I'm going to guess not, because thinking about it that wouldn't make much sense.

Counterspells can't target themselves.

They can (with cards like Misdirection) only when they're already on the stack. So in standard, you could for example Wild Ricochet a Dissipate and make the Dissipate target itself.

Normally, though, a counterspell must be able to target what it's countering before it's even cast, so it can't target itself since it's not already on the stack.

Actually, that is completely wrong. The spell is a legal target for misdirection, but you can't change the target of the spell to itself.

114.4. A spell or ability on the stack is an illegal target for itself.

Oh, my bad.

Yeah, the interaction I was thinking of was Misdirection making the counter target said Misdirection, causing the counter to fizzle.

Yeah, the most common play with that is making the counter spell target misdirection, which is still a legal play and the counter spell does fizzle.
