Well, if using a skill gives you experience, and Asuna was in the game for 2 years and only just mastered it, it must take a while. Time Kirito spends out in the field.

I know it's just...the characters look so strange in the manga.

Speaking of my store, with the new releases the shelves were all moved. It kinda felt as if my room had been changed when I was at school and I had no idea where anything was. And they stuffed as much as they could per shelf so if you pull something out it wont go back in without bending. I just put them back on top of the others.
