The "Kokoro Scope"(Heart Scope) seems to work like this: You use it to determine the contradicting emotion with the witness' words, then point out said emotion.
The new mechanic seems to be a new bluffing method if anything. Phoenix can new get away with making a bluff in confidence, and can trigger the corresponding emotion from the witness to prove that he's on the right track. Like for example, how he pointed out the grudge the bomber guy had in the trailer, and got the corresponding angry reaction out of him.
Also, investigations seems to be the same. No word on Psyche Locks or anything yet.
And you have your new companion right off the bat. She has an attorney's badge, so maybe it's someone working at Wright & Co now? Or Wright Anything Agency if they're keeping it like that.
... Speaking of that, no word on Apollo either... or any of the other old characters.

Well, whilst yes Apollo needed a new game, they did kind of set this up at the end of that game, with Pheonix saying he was considering retaking the bar exam, so you could Kinda guess this was coming.
Yes they are milking him, but he is the cover boy of the series. I'm not going to pass judgement on it until I have played it. Becuase I love the series, and I want to love this as well.
Also, no AAI2 in english yet? Sad now...

Quick update:
Investigations in AA5 will be making use out of the 3D effects, allowing you to view Crime Scenes from different angles. Similar to how you could thoroughly examine evidence in Apollo Justice and Ace Attorney Investigations, and the Rise Above The Ashes case, you can now do this with the room itself.
Also more on the Heart Scope. The "updating" I mentioned at one point seems to be updating the Heart Scope with the additional emotions one felt during their part of a testimony. For example, if one was distressed and surprised, that would be updated. Not sure on the purpose of updating yet though.
There's a video on the TGS Showcase (couldn't find the demo), but it's 35 minutes long and in Japanese with no subs, sooo...

Phoenix Wright's 3DS debut Ace Attorney 5 will feature voice acting - a first for the series.
According to a report in Nintendo Dream (via Siliconera), Capcom acknowledged this is bound to be a divisive move that won't please everyone, but after careful consideration it decided this was the best way to progress.
Part of the reason for this is due to the 3DS' surround sound capabilities, which apparently would have made porting the DS' sounds over very difficult due to "tuning issues."
The staff also wanted the in-game talking to better match the fully voiced anime cutscenes.
Elsewhere in the report, the developer said it would like the newest rendition of Phoenix to inherit traits from both his non-attorney presence in Apollo Justice and his dorky, naive college student persona we saw in Trials and Tribulations' flashbacks.
This time out Phoenix's new partner is a defense attorney working under him named Kokone Kizuki. She'll use a special necklace to monitor witnesses' emotions.
The question is do people want a voice-acted Ace Attorney cast? I guess we'll have to hear the English voice-acting to see how it adds up, but it's got lot to overcome after years of us filling in these character's voices in our heads.
