Seems like Faded into Antiquity has...*puts sunglasses*...faded into antiquity.
YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Also, Satyr Firedancer is sweet, it may even be playable in modern/legacy in RDW or Burn.

You finally got your 2-drop Rare to complete the cycle!
I love this set. It has everything for everyone, especially some sweet EDH cards.

Re: [BNG] Daily Previews 23/01
Am I missing something where the 2 mana 1/1 is remotely playable anywhere?
And I don't disagree with Dae; a lot of BNG has been pretty underwhelming. That said it's the reason Tromokratis exists, so...

Re: [BNG] Daily Previews 23/01
BNG is a second set. They're always worse than the first. In the scheme of second sets, BNG ranks highly though. Seven new commanders, a lot of strictly betters of iconic cards, gold being implemented which I've been waiting a few years for, and a whole load of cards which may or may not see play in Standard. No second set should totally redefine Standard, just refine it. Sideboard stuff, a few anchor cards.
And, it doesn't seem strictly less fun to draft BNG-THS-THS compared to Theros than DKA-INN-INN was to triple Innistrad.

Re: [BNG] Daily Previews 23/01
Don't get me wrong, I think BTT will almost definitely be a better draft format than straight-up TTT.
The set in general doesn't have much really exciting stuff though. Especially for me, where my only comparison for a small set is Dragon's Maze which had a ton of crazy things going on in it. Very few cards look like they'll impact standard and just about none of the rares or anything seem like they'll make a very big splash. I'm also looking from a standard perspective, and if BNG doesn't do much to shake up standard I see it getting boring quickly.

The uncommons are incredibly impressive for this set, especially considering the ones that hit eternal formats from the start.
I just don't like the directions they took for everything else. It feels kind of like a bland set minus a few small things...essentially DGM all over again. One of EDH's favorite curiosities, but even so.

I really don't like the DGM comparison, tbh. While DGM made draft feel really shitty imo, it was a great set for splashy cards and format definers.
I actually think BNG is the total opposite; It seems, so far, to not have much of an impact on standard but its effect on limited will be very positive.

It does have little things, and white weenie is very clearly a deck to look into as a result.
But yes, DGM technically had more for standard than this has right now. Only a small fraction of the stuff is debatable to run in standard, with a very smaller number being certain.

Re: [BNG] Daily Previews 23/01
DGM is an unfair comparison. Wizards tends to save a lot of powerful designs for the third set, because they've exhausted most of the others for Set 1 and 2. A lot of the 3rd sets in modern Magic have a couple of format-defining cards. Journey into Nyx should theoretically be a more powerful set than BNG, if we're looking forwards to things.

If only Young Pyromancer wasn't better for the overall Red-schemes.Mirai wrote:Dae of Judgment wrote:Born of the Gods is such a crappy set for me.
