I'm obviously not familiar with the time she was popular, so I never really get why people like her, especially given the much better angels with far more fun interactions printed in more recent sets.

She was bassically voted as the MOST popular Legendary creature in the Game around 7 years ago
Historically, Akroma was created by a maddened, heartbroken Ixidor, using the memories of his beloved wife which was completely dissintegrated by Phage in a Cabal Pit fight...from there one Akroma only lived to acommplish Ixidor's vengeance on Phage and the Cabal, becoming a hero and a villain of sorts (Good intentioned but using ruthless methods of Domination)
All in all akroma is iconic by the fact that she was a very deep character, with a really tragic history, people grew up on her and...well she was the KEYWORDs legendary and an Angel and all that jazz...
In game functionality has nothing to do with her popularity.

@Roddy: Yeah she was his first Illusion which actually stayed material forever (Until well...she died)
