...I'm about this close to just saying screw it and building Esper Control, although the true likelihood of me doing that is slim, since I really won't be getting any Sphinx's Revelations anytime soon.
God damn, though.

Re: [GTC] Soul Ransom
Wait, I don't think I understand it. You cast this to take over a creature. Then, your opponent might discard 2 cards to make you draw 2 cards and get their creature back? O.o

Essentially, take a creature body win condition and force tough choices.
Well, except for the part where Bant just pops the card back to the top of their library. But even then, it keeps tempo. Esper more than likely wants this as a one-of in at least the board.

I want 20.
This is a staple for any EDH running those colors and any control deck would kindly like to either get your fattie or make a Mindculling at 4 cmc.

Both of what it does are so good that it's essentially almost never not doing what you want it to.
Although, I'd only side this vs midrange, tbh. Better options against everything else. You want to be using sweepers vs aggro and control can just not run any creatures or just Obzedat.

Re: [GTC] Soul Ransom
It took me a while to figure it out. Only just realised that it doesn't let your opponent loot. It lets you Divination and your opponent Mind Rot. Okay.
It's incredibly cool. Obviously, it only becomes mana advantage against midrange.
