Yeah, I can imagine playing this in limited. Probably not draft, but in sealed I don't see why not.
Most of the time he's just a 6/6 defender that can attack if their board is open, tbh. Which seems fine to me. And how often will they really want to sac a creature for life?
He just helps Extort by being a big fat blocker.

Basically what Chris said, except reverse the defensive portion.
