Let's discuss greens most basic pump spell. The spell part of the Boon Cycle.

    http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/article/Boons

Clearly out classed by Dark Ritual and Ancestral Recall but I still think it's good on it's own. Making your little 1/1 llanowar elf into a 4/4 could be a good move.

I'm glad they didn't reprint this when Infect was around.

I still have it in my Infect deck, but it isn't Standard. Might be Modern though I have no idea xD. I really need to find a banlist...

Now how do I tell what set has what cards? It's easy enough on Cockatrice, but my IRL decks are made of cards where like 90% were given to me.

Each card has a expansion symbol on the right side of its card type.

Easiest way is checking the card on Magiccards.info to see which set it is from.

Use gatherer.wizards.com or magiccards.info as card search engines, basically.

He'd be fine, Giant Growth was in M11.

..Wait, Giant Growth was in M11? Wasn't Scars emerging at that time?

Regardless, this is a really good one-drop ramp spell to have beside Mutagenic Growth and a whole host of others. Mainly because it's +3/+3 for one.

I mean, it's really hard to beat a nice resource.

Too inconsistent without stuff like Wild Defiance and Rancor.
