I'm...actually not sure what they'll change about standard off the top of my head.
What's remarkably different about the current meta is that honestly, the core set lands, as well as the lands introduced in Innistrad, were pretty consistent to start. The reprinting appears to be merely replacing the lands from Scars block with the shock lands from eons ago.
...That being said, they're a lot more effective than the Scars lands, since you get a dual land for two life. And there's ways to work around your life total, so this is going to be totally worth it in the end.
So, I guess it's going to improve consistency in the game, albeit for negotiable life? It wasn't bad for Boros because they had Helix and the like, and Selesnya had Lifelink tools, but I don't know how that's going to work out now.

Fetchable to be accurate. Because of the Island/Plains/Swamp/Mountain/Forest subtypes, the Zendikar and Onslaught fetchlands allow them to be fetchable.Dementuo wrote:They're searchable Duel Lands.

That's the other part. Farseek is suddenly a crazy good search tool, solely because of the fact that it doesn't search basics.
...Come to think of it, what other cards in Innistrad Block and the '13 Core Set search out individual land types?

Re: The Shocklands
I know Nicol Bolas' Gem of Becoming searches out Islands, Mountains and Swamps, so that applies here for late-game, but most of the shock lands are better off snatched-up early.

Don't the Panoramas search Land Types as opposed to basics too?

My only question is, the prices are going to drop because of the reprint or get higher because it's going to be on standard?

Re: The Shocklands
I forsee them being very high while there in standard, then going down a little, then going up again because of modern.
But thats just my guess.

Depends on how this affects the meta, which is definitely going to undergo a large shift with the loss of a lot of Scars Block's tools. I'd say they're going to go down slightly, but only a smidge.

So...it's not a good investment to buy a bunch of them now and sell later?

You can, but keep in mind that there's a lot of testing to be done once RtR comes in.

Right now, it seems like it's pretty deadset on being a good card, so I'd just go ahead and order some.

Re: The Shocklands
I'll have a playset of each, please.
In my dreams ;-;
Still, the reprint was quite obvious honestly. We just feared it not happening because they are indeed very powerful.

Re: The Shocklands
Something awesome I just now realized (probably took me longer than you guys, I bet you already know) that these shocklands make the M13 duals come into play untapped so you could for instance play a Overgrown Tomb, play a Gavecrawler, then play a Rootbound Crag then play a Strangleroot Geist. Now you have 3 different mana colors on turn 2.
This sounds like even 3 color decks could be good in this format.

Re: The Shocklands
If you're playing control, meh. If you're playing aggro, they're a decent replacement for Scarlands.
If you're playing any land searchers, they're amazing. If you're playing Arbor Elf, the four shocklands that apply are amazing (basically a replacement for Birds of Paradise, unless it gets reprinted).
Oh, and the price will go down (but not that much). Especially considering that the foils with the new art are gonna look amazing, and, yes, the art is amazing.
The reason why they're not as good in Standard as they are in Modern is obviously because of a lack of Zendikar fetchlands.

Pretty sure we all already love this. :3
But, I don't think we'll be seeing those specific cards in the same decks as a Rootbound Crag, but it's possible for Woodland Cemetery in Golgari. Jund with Gravecrawler and Strangleroot Geist seems very unlikely, lol.
