Searching for Instants/Sorceries is categorically blue. Blue and Red are also the most spell-aligned colours. So it makes perfect sense to me.

That does feel R/U to me.

Had an idea so decided to actually do this. Don't know if the P/T font is right, I just quickly DL'd MSE to do this before I forgot but it shouldn't be important, obviously.

This is definitely mechanics for you, Chris.

But flavorly, Red should not be able to get a tutor that just searches for a card, unless it is just a sorcery. Whenever Red is allowed to search for a card, there is also the idea of discarding a card at random. This is because Red doesn't care about planning ahead or being able to set up. It is just instinct and in the moment. So getting a card without some kind of "dare" within it is very not red.

And UB is usually the part of tutoring that allows for players to search for a creature with flash.

I agree that in terms of flavour it's not Red. It's not just Red, though. It's Red and Blue.

If you control a White creature ~ gains doublestrike.
If you control a Black creature ~ gains lifelink.

There is really nothing Red about the card, though. There is no overlapping ideas that correspond with Red and blue together. It would be safer to have it as a Blue card itself.

Black would be more fitting if going into a second color.

Red loves spells ergo its alignment with spells is red. The searching ability is blue. Simple as that really. idk why you think it has to be black at all. I mean, it could be, but it could easily be either mono blue, Dimir or Izzet.

Red doesn't love spells, it loves chaos. It does things on impulse and without thought. Most Red spells reflect that. It doesn't matter how chaos is caused as long as it is. But searching for a card that does not affect chaos at the moment isn't Red since red doesn't plan ahead. There is no sense of gambling here, which is also red and prominently Red's effect for searching. The searching is blue, but also black since it is searching for a creature with flash, which is secondary in black. Mostly for flavor reasoning does this play a role now. I believe stated by Maro at one point.

I got to go with Chris, that thing is just awesome flavor  and playable too.

Chris' is just the coolest. Both figuratively and literally.

I will say now that I really wish I hadn't given it haste. Sounds off to me that an ice dragon has haste.

Still, having the 4 non-me votes so far makes me happy.
