Because this thread is really overdue Let's talk all things RWBY
Web Animation: RWBY
Red like roses fills my dreams and brings me to the place you rest
White is cold and always yearning, burdened by a royal test
Black the beast descends from shadows
Yellow beauty burns gold
RWBY (pronounced "Ruby") is an Animesque CGI production from Rooster Teeth, animated by Monty Oum.
Many years ago, in a world known as Vytal, mankind lived in peace until the arrival of "The Grimm": malevolent creatures who emerged from the darkness to attack humanity. To fight back, mankind created a magical energy source known as "Dust" and used its power to not only drive back the Grimm but catalyze the growth of civilization across the planet.
In the present day, "Hunters" are trained in special schools to harness the Dust and become protectors of the peace. One such trainee, an idealistic girl named Ruby Rose, is scouted by the elite Beacon Academy and allowed to skip two years worth of training to attend. Once there, she is placed into a team with three other students: Yang Xiao Long, her boisterous big sister; Weiss Schnee, the heiress of the Schnee Dust Company; and Blake Belladonna, a mysterious and aloof girl. Though initial tensions are high, the forces of darkness are preparing to return and the four girls must learn to work together to survive.
The four main characters were introduced one at a time in four trailers: Red (Ruby Rose), White (Weiss Schnee), Black (Blake Belladonna), and Yellow, (Yang Xiaolong), to much anticipation and speculation. On July 18th 2013, the first episode premiered for the general population. The first season is planned to run for sixteen episodes and 'Volume 1' can be preordered here.
New episodes are released on Rooster Teeth's website and the series is also being simulcasted on Crunchyroll. Additionally, each episode is put up on Rooster Teeth's YouTube channel one week after it premiers. Episode 1 is here.

All things? One thread doesn't fit all that awesomeness.
I really like the way the character development is going, despite feeling really bad for Jaune. Nora is just so crazy, and Ruby is really hyper too.

Re: RWBY from Monty Oum
I just want to make it clear that no matter how much the opposing party wants to complain: everyone who bitches about longer episodes is right. RWBY has incredible potential and it's being wasted by not even have consistent 10 minute episodes. Episode 8 was literally the best episode of the series because it had development and action packed into 15 minutes.
That's the only real problem I see with RWBY though, aside from some mediocre voice acting every now and then. The script is witty and realistic in some aspects. The character development is incredible even though it hasn't been that long, Jaune's getting a lot of it set up for him and I'm expecting more out of the side characters than Ruby's team at the moment. Weiss' development seems flip floppy and rushed, despite it being the right path. Yang doesn't even seem like she can have any at all at the moment. Blake can be set up extremely well with the existence of the (cutie patootie bunny) other faunas in the school, especially (precious baby) Velvet. Though, as it stands, JNPR is a lot more interesting.
I just wish the series would do more so everyone could take it more seriously or at least the producers themselves would.

Re: RWBY from Monty Oum
Well, when the DVD's come out it's going to feel more like a big movie I would suppose, all the "Episodes" mend together really well.

Re: RWBY from Monty Oum
If the DVD is just going to feel like a big blended movie, it'd be a mistake to call this a proper series. I agree that it does seem like that, but keeping it in a stable episodic format would make it look cleaner as a whole.Jordan, Lich Lord wrote:Well, when the DVD's come out it's going to feel more like a big movie I would suppose, all the "Episodes" mend together really well.

Re: RWBY from Monty Oum
We've entered another character arc. While I'm happy that it's Blake... would it hurt to actually get some genuine plot with all of this? We've learned about the White Fang but other than that we've really got no clear direction in this series...

Isn't that one of the prime reasons why people hate GX?Mirai wrote:Remember Yugioh GX, where the plot started on episode 26?

I don't hate it o3o
I never thought of that as a bad thing. Anime isn't just plot (in this case, animations in general).

I always thought the Prime reason it was hated was because
"Hey, this isn't Yugi!"

RWBY's short episodes are the main issue for me tbh.

Re: RWBY from Monty Oum
I meant the majority's opinion. I know they aren't just "plot" and characters are extremely important in story building, but it's sort of ridiculous when no plot has shown up at all in 15 episodes and we've gotten more development on the cast than any sort of direction in the story, and some of it is starting to seem repeated(like Weiss, unfortunately). Unless the next arc is Yang, Nora, or Lie Ren, I'm hoping the guys get a couple clues here.Mirai wrote:I don't hate it o3o

Re: RWBY from Monty Oum
Having caught up with the season finale and accepting BlakexYang as my new otp over RubyxWeiss for awhile (since no more Ruby development in weeks), I can finally get my thoughts down about it. ... Which is to say it was f****** incredible. It's exactly what episode eight was: everything everyone had been waiting for. Good length, good music, real action, lengthy action, character development, Ruby being a cute idiot(wow she is me 100% rodrigo youre my yang bye), and a ridiculously shocking and awesome plot twist about Penny. Sun was an amazing asshole with his staff too, and the return of our episode one antagonist shows himself to be extremely capable having been able to combat the extremely fast Blake with literally no problem using a Cane Gun (Ruby getting knocked out before even trying was stupid though). Not only that, but "Crimson" aka Cinder shows herself in full with two more antagonists so we're getting into plot and next season is finally going to take the best turn this series can.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still not buying the DVD. I don't care how much they promote it. Will I buy the soundtrack? Perhaps. Maybe. Probably. Yes why would you ask wtf. I just feel like this series should be more... authentic? Before making something like a DVD. That's just me, I'm probably expecting too much from a casual series. I don't exactly want to see potential wasted.
We've gotten several character arcs and we've gained two sets of antagonists: the White Fang and Cinder's group. Plot is definitely on the way (finally) and in the upcoming future we can finally get to Ruby's backstory behind her character themes.
That all said one of the new antagonists looks like Aichi. And everyone thinks he's getting voiced by Gavin.

I've only watched the first episode because I "forgot" I had an assignment to do for Computation and Logic... But yeah, I really thought this was gonna be pretty bad... It was surprisingly fun and a change of pace (sorry if this has already been said earlier in the thread). Ruby though <333
