Yay fact or fiction
So you get to choose the piles. But they get to choose if you get the right one or not. Cool.
Edit-Hey wait a minute.

Re: [THS] Steam Augury
This is still just good card advantage and you get to dig incredibly deep. Also not to mention if there's any card in there they can't deal with you can get a total card advantage of plus 3. The problem is, you likely will never get exactly what you want.

Card isn't really that awful by any means. It involves people using their brains for once and since you get to organize your piles, your opponent has to choose wisely.
And if they hit all good options, well, shit.

Re: [THS] Steam Augury
The problem with this is it fights for space with Jace, Verdict, Inspiration (Which this is certainly not strictly better than) and colours in the whole UWR vs Esper thing.

Implying this is clearly going to be a three-color format, which it's not.Ashiok wrote:The problem with this is it fights for space with Jace, Verdict, Inspiration (Which this is certainly not strictly better than) and colours in the whole UWR vs Esper thing.
That said, can't see this run immediately in U/R, since Jace/Chandra are there alongside all the blue value spells. May be a one-of in board, we'll have to see what people will do.

Re: [THS] Steam Augury
This is strictly better than Inspiration though (obviously barring the mana cost restrictions). If you ignore the skill involved in getting the cards you want, the cards you get are essentially equivalent to card draw (and I'm ignoring the extra mill you get out of it). If you're looking for drawing cards equal to at least Inspiration, you just choose a 2/3 split and you'll get at the very least two random cards from your deck. If you manipulate it, you can split threats between the piles and get an answer either way.Ashiok wrote:The problem with this is it fights for space with Jace, Verdict, Inspiration (Which this is certainly not strictly better than) and colours in the whole UWR vs Esper thing.
I do agree that this fights Esper (and obviously, you have other four-drops). I have the feeling that Esper or plain out UW is just the better option post-rotation.

Re: [THS] Steam Augury
3 colour is definitely viable. Have you not seen RTR block where the decks function fine with some gates? Standard isn't too unfriendly to UW control splashing a colour either.Kyousuke Kousaka wrote:Implying this is clearly going to be a three-color format, which it's not.Ashiok wrote:The problem with this is it fights for space with Jace, Verdict, Inspiration (Which this is certainly not strictly better than) and colours in the whole UWR vs Esper thing.

I actually think the random element to Inspiration is a slight argument for it being better, but overall I will agree I was wrong and that this is really nice. I'll definitely be trying this in UWR post-rotation..Rai wrote:This is strictly better than Inspiration though (obviously barring the mana cost restrictions).
