Re: [THS] Xenagos, the Reveler
I'm waiting for Chris to come into this thread, but screw it, I'll give my spin on it.
First reaction was irritation over the synergy with Domri Rade, as well as the fact that, well, y'know, does seem to go pretty well with Purphoros, my favorite God thus far (since Erebos isn't out as of this post).
Now I've settled into making some pros and cons for this, and I'll be honest, they make the card fairer than it seems.
Pros:
+ Makes 2/2 hasty dudes that can also act as meat shields, making him a cheaper, easier-to-use Elspeth.
+ With BTE and our new mana tree, able to potentially play a 5-drop finisher the turn you drop him
+ Pretty good flavor
+ Did I mention his synergy with cards in the set? His Satyr friends can potentially do 4 a turn if left alone with Purphoros in play.
Cons:
- Not "the next Mind Sculptor." A better way to put it would be that it's not as stupid as it's made out to be. People keep saying it's aggro's version of Jace and it's most clearly not. It's a decent accelerator; much better than Ral's +1 on paper, in my opinion. But in comparison with other green walkers, it's not as directly potent or problematic.
- While it does make dudes through a board wipe, +1 loses its value when on the draw in that scenario, thus killing a fair portion of the fear this card invokes.
- Easier to hit than Elspeth in the mirror. 3 1/1s versus 1 2/2 hasty that might've swung already seems to push the protection in Elspeth's favor, even if Dreadbore is a card.
Overall? He's certainly something to look for, but if you're not going to use him, flip him for the hype price and gloat when he drops to more reasonable prices later, when people finally realize they did the exact same bullshit three times in a row at this point.

I feel like it isn't even going to work in the same deck as Domri. I don't know why.

Re: [THS] Xenagos, the Reveler
Because Domri is infinitely better than this on every metric.
I really don't think this is good. It's +1 begs to be something else since the decks that swarm aren't looking to ramp with this and it's 0 is pretty mediocre not backed up enough by other abilities like every other token making Planeswalker we've had.
