Purphoros isn't a mono-red aggro card. It means the deck gets f****** wrecked by removal and is just all-in-all an awful curve topper.

On the other hand, Big Red fulfils it with just Boros Reckoner plus Chandra or Hammer. That's really, really good, possibly.

Hilariously enough, I'm building R/W tokens this format simply based on the theory that I have multiple protections for both my large bodies (mostly Reckoners) and my tokens, and on top of that, Elspeth +1s for 6 to the face.

It'll be wonky as hell, but if the format's predominately 1-2 color, I'm totally down to make it work.

Big Boros could very much be a deck as well, too.

    Flamespeaker Adept 2R

    Creature — Human Shaman Uncommon
Whenever you scry, Flamespeaker Adept gets +2/+0 and gains first strike until end of turn.

    2/3

Depending on the amount of good Scrys this could be good Smile

A 2/3 for 3 with conditional and temporary upside which isn't a particularly huge boon isn't worth it.

    In limited, however....

Like I said it will depend, if we can get about 3 good scry cards in UR I could see it in a Izzet Blitz deck.

    *Remembers Inistrad is leaving soon*

Preferable if some cards manage to make up for all that deck looses post rotation...

    Not gonna happen.

Flashback, most specifically Artful Dodge, is what made that deck actually work.

On Purporos: Is a Shame that Thatcher Revolt is Rotating out...and Goblin Rally while doing a lot of Damage on the spot...but it is not the same.

    Hold on
    t3 hammer
    t4 Purphoros
    t5 Goblin Rally -> 12 damage

It is not by any means good but god it seems fun

Yeah I misread it. I read it as Each land you control is each other basic land type hehe...

A lot better then it really is.

Unfortunate that it's been leaked, but interesting.

Glad to see that they've made the white version of Kraken Hatchling that I've been brainstorming on in HUB.

Would rather Kraken Hatchling, but a White Kraken Hatchling is still a Kraken Hatchling. (Yes, I seriously love me a 0/4 for 1.)

Limited is looking incredibly durdly from a quick glance over the set, and I do like the general design of the enchantments to not just auto-2-for-1 themselves.

Virtually nothing for standard from the leaking of the rest of the set though, but oh well. The good stuff we already got is really good.

Theros is great, but I literally did not expect the direction they took it in. There's very little direct enchantment support à la Sigil of the Empty Throne or even anything in M14, but instead more emphasis on just making auras playable in Limited. I mean, outside of the gods, there aren't actually any straight up non-Aura enchantments. There are also six enchantment hate cards (Priest of Iroas, Annul, Ray of Dissolution, Destructive Revelry, Fade into Antiquity, Artisan's Sorrow). That's a shock to the system. I assume the reasoning is that they're all essentially only side playable, so it's useful just having an excess of them so everyone does actually get some stuff. It's Aura wars this set in Limited, I think. More Rise of the Eldrazi than Innistrad. No matter, Rise was awesome. First thing I'm doing is trying to draft Horizon Cimera with a red splash and play those cantrip auras like hell

I wouldn't be surprised if Hopeful Eidolon sees sideboard play. Mark of the Vampire has definitely seen sideboard play, and the -1/-1 tradeoff balances it out by negating the 2-for-1 and also the alternate mode of just having a 1/1 lifelink too.

The Artifact Elk should see EDH play. It's pretty awesome ramp in non-green decks.

I like the fact that they give us a decent number of ways in each colour combination to tackle the main theme of the set.

I just wish that there was a good cheap cantrip à la Think Twice.

Oh well, I can now have my brew hat on fully, and I still have Abhorrent Overlord as my sleeper pick of the set, and the new stuff hasn't changed that.

I love the overreactions on MTGS about how "terrible" this set is, how slow the limited format is, and how there are only 10 Standard playable cards. It's hilarious.

The format is slow, but it's still tons of fun. Cantripping Auras, the Eidolons are fine, only a few Rares are bad, and the flavor is 100% awesome.

Also, my favorite card in the set is Hundred-Handed Man, followed by the Colossus.

The set is so terrible that it has a ton of standard playable cards and likely-sleepers.

idk how the limited format could look bad. It seems pretty grindy and there's a good chance for board stalls but the mechanics in the set really help break those. Kinda feels like ROE.

Hundred-Handed One is definitely one of my favourites too. Also think it'll see some serious constructed play. a 3/5 Vigilance for 4 isn't bad, and a 6/8 Vigilance, Reach, block everything for 6 is definitely decent at the very least.

People treating Monstrositying a creature, for instance with Hundred-Handed One, as a 10-drop is silly. It's a 4-drop that gives you access to a 6-drop while it's out.

I agree with Chris that there are sleepers in the set. I think we just have to wait till Pro Tours and stuff get into full swing to see what happens.

Monstrosity being instant speed is actually just insane, too, especially in colours with plenty of good instants, like how Hundred-Handed One is in White which, surprise surprise, pairs well with blue.
