Well, I've just begun learning how to program in Ren'Py, a visual novel engine. It's a hell of a lot easier than I thought it would be.

So, discuss coding and the likes. Do you find yourself ever wishing you could fully grasp these lines of text?

I'll learn how to program, hopefully on more than 2 languages.

It's an interesting world and can get your wishes done. Smile

Future computer science major here, saying that programming isn't as hard as it looks. Or at least may not be, depending on how you learn. Learning a programming language is similar to learning a foreign language; it's all about grammar and how words correspond between the languages.

I'm currently planning on making a freeware OS-tan based port of Phoenix from the TI-83 calculator in Java at some point.

Can't believe I was about to post a new programming thread on the General sub-forum... Thank gosh I found this...

Being someone at a pretty f****** good university for Computer Science. I personally can say, programming is by far one of the greatest fettishes known to man...

    I currently know:
    -Visual Basic
    -VB.NET
    -C#

Currently learning becacuse I'm a 10/10 champ at life:
-Java (Yeah I know, shitty as f***, but great practical use like a "C"ertain other language)
    -Haskell

Languages I would rather kill myself than know:
    -C++
    -HTML
    -Python

I hope we all know that Functional Programming is actually really shitty to learn from an Imperative point of view.

I kinda wanna try and learn Python because it's a Multi-Paradigm language... But it's Functional parts seems actual gross... Java seems pretty fine apart from looking a mess, I mean, some of the Pre-Functions are incredibly useful.

If you want some legit advice (that I think/feel is legit), try learning a Pure Functional language like Haskell, Lisp or F#. It will show employers that you can not only write imperatively, but functionally and shows you are competent when it comes to mathematics.

At the rate I'm going with procrastinating with 'gramming, I'm gonna stop bringing my laptop to uni... This is how f****** bad it's getting... Gonna try and find my old IPod Video tonight that has like 160 GB of storage and just use that for my Khanacademy videos from now on...

GitHub is the deviantArt of programming. You put your programs and stuff online and other people can look at it, tell you how to fix it or improve it, people can even use your code to help with theirs. You can even "fork" someones program and make your own unique program from someone elses. I.e. Open-Source is fun, get it :3333333
