    Connecticut Shooting Empty Connecticut Shooting

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/15/nyregion/shooting-reported-at-connecticut-elementary-school.html?_r=0

Stats are confusing, news on TV is saying 30 people 18 children, other places give different numbers. Either way, this is a disaster.

People are arguing about gun laws and such, and there's some bill that could be possibly passed for Michigan about allowing guns in classrooms.

And to further add, the idiots on CNN gave the wrong picture, and several people with the same name are being attacked on facebook and twitter.

Another reason to add to my list of "Why to not live in the USA".

If it was an occasional thing... but it happens way too much.

There was also a similar shooting to this in China I believe, around 22 children were killed in that one.

... I lost the link to the article though, so if anyone finds a link to a proper article on the china shooting since I can't, it'd be very much appreciated.

    EDIT:
It wasn't a gun used for China, it was a knife.

Events like these always make me fear for humanity. Regardless of the huge controversy over it, gun laws in America need to be stricter.

The situation isn't quite as simple as making gun laws stricter at this point. There are a few serious issues the least of which is that their constitution guarantees American's the right to a weapon.

I'll be honest. When I read about this today, I had tears running down my face. How could someone be so sadistic as to take 20+ People out then kill themselves.... There is some seriously sick people in this world.

While I do agree on this, the main problem isn't gun laws here. The same thing happened in China, and it was a blade used as the murder weapon, not a firearm.

The problem is the people who have the mentality to do insane shit like this in the first place.

Of course it is the people that's the issue, but that's a very difficult thing to control. There was something I saw on the front page of KnowYourMeme from a BBC news story a few years ago, and saying that it's often the news that is at fault for the increased amount of these killings. The solutions basically boiled down to these things:

    - Don't name or show the killer's face.
    - Don't start news stories with wailing sirens.
    - Don't give a death count.
    - Definitely, definitely don't even vaguely present the killer as an anti-hero.

Alternatively raise awareness by showing the killer's face, starting the stories with sirens, and giving a death count. The news is the news and people damn right deserve to be told what happened. Anything else would be the start to crap news and lies which can only get worse.

Problem is that news can begin to degenerate into what becomes a vanity portrait for the killer. If the news begins to move into giving what can essentially become a biography of the killer, then you influence others. Not my personal words, but I do agree with it (this was all from a psychologist's view; apparently there's almost always another case of a killing in a similar area within a short period of a heavily televised killing).
