Act of Treason (And similar) 125

This is mostly because I completely forgot to mention a play I made at the ptq yesterday.

So, I've controlled a Marauding Maulhorn with 2 Advocate of the Beasts out for 7 turns, the Maulhorn being Claustrophobiad. I drew my Act of Treason during these turns and immediately realised the best line of play should I draw a certain other card in my deck. As luck had it, I drew it the very next turn. So, the play was to Act my own 19/17 Maulhorn then play the Enlarge I drew on it.

It feels very, very satisfying to go from a clogged board to swinging with a 26/24 trampling game ender with a bunch of lethal dudes going in with it. Especially in limited.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. My recent expedites with Zombies has made me fall in love with these types of effects thanks to Mark of Mutiny always being the perfect card for things I just can't normally handle, like Thragtusk and Blood Baron. They're incredibly swingy effects, but that just makes them that much better when they really work with a strategy.

My Favorite of Temporary Control Magic Cards are Insurrection (FREAKING <3) and Reins of Power.

That's genuinely a use for Act of Treason I have never seen done before. Kudos.

They've always been part of the metalmark, lurking in the sideboards of various BR/x decks just to totally abuse your opponent's plays. I kinda want a double strike variant of Act of Treason. Double swinginess is awesome.

Well yeah, most people almost always forget that Act of Treason can also read "2R: untap target creature and it gains haste". If you see it like that, it could be a 3 mana, one shot Rings of Brighthearth.

I actually always liked Treason-style effects, and thought Mark of Mutiny/Traitorous Blood weren't all that bad in the board. Specifically for RDW as a tech play, tbh, because heavy swings with everything is incredible.

Glad you got one of the best possible uses out of the effect. Limited's a great environment for the card.
